How an Inadequate, Homeschool Mom Can Prevent You From Ruining Your Children.
Tresta Neil is the co-creator of Keystone Education and co-directs the LDS Homeschool Conference with her amazing husband, Thom. She is the author of “God Saw That It Was Good,” “The Theology Tree” and "The Key Pattern of Learning." She is a sought after speaker throughout the nation, teaches online classes and mentors others on life skills, family relationships, systems and homeschooling.
As a child she believed the words "you're stupid" and when she barely graduated High School she thought she had her proof. After graduating college with two degrees she still felt unintelligent. In 1998 when her husband asked her to homeschool their four small children she panicked, how could she teach them? what if it wasn't enough? she could ruin them! She found a wonderful mentor to guide her. She spent the next several years in a small basement apartment hiding from the world and teaching her children in secret. During that time she discovered how to learn and how to make connections between the mind and the heart by focusing on Christ and His language of symbolism. Come, learn to connect more deeply with God, recognize your intelligence and experience the joy of seeing the light of understanding move from your children's mind to their heart.
Unique Resume
Tresta is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest lap sit :) She celebrated New Years four times in one night as she flew across the Atlantic Ocean on New Year's Eve. She has been accused of child abuse, grand theft auto, drunk driving and stealing, she was innocent in all cases. She spent two years in and out of the hospital with her son who was born without a bile duct, his life was spared from the loss of a friend's life. She sat on a cactus at age 16 and had to be de-pantsed in front of others in order to have the needles pulled out.
Regular Bio
Tresta was raised under the New Mexican sunsets and loves Mexican and Navajo food. She learned about the miracle of the body in nursing school at Weber State and about putting Christ first on her mission to the Netherlands. She learned about spiritual power (Christ's and ourselves) from the hundreds of religion classes. After living in four different states she calls Utah her home. She is learning patience while homeschooling her eight children. She remains hungry for knowledge about symbols, rituals and patterns within the scriptures and the ancient Hebrew and Persian cultures. She is the author of “God Saw That It Was Good”, “The Theology Tree” and co-directs the LDS Homeschool Conference with her husband, Thom. Her passion is teaching and writing. If she had to choose only one subject to study she would study the stars. If you ask her about her most embarrassing moment she will tell you a story about a cactus. :)

But there is hope! When a child knows how to listen to their intuition and how to learn they will be able to accomplish any lesson or exam life hands them. Increase Your Memory with Symbolism
There are over 30,000 words in the English language and only 8,000 in the Hebrew language. Why? Because Hebrew uses symbolism, letters and words that create pictures and stories. When symbolism is used in learning understanding and memory is increased. Symbols connect new learning and knowledge (mind) to understanding (heart) which leads to action or change. The Language of Symbolism, also called the Language of Faith, is the Great Connector. Do you want to remember the things you learn?
Connecting God with 2 + 2
One of the many reasons we choose to homeschool is so we can teach God throughout all learning. Have you been successful with teaching God in math? I use to struggle with this until I learned how to compare the characteristics of God with the principles of Math. For example God is a God of order and there is order to math, Math is demonstrable and God is too. Come learn 12 characteristics of Christ taught through four different branches of mathematics. Watch Donald Duck in Mathemagic Land in preparation for this class.
Constellations?
Find out what the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 zodiac constellations have in common. In this workshop you will discover the symbols of the ancient constellations, their colors and stones. Have you ever looked at the stars, remembered a few constellations and longed to remember more and know their stories. Come to this workshop and you will learn several stories you can share immediately. As preparation for this class read, The Golden Plates and the Feast of the Trumpets, to see how important dates are to God.
Mind-Power Mentoring
Connecting with your children is the heart of homeschooling. For without a good relationship with your children you cannot teach, lead or guide them. I will share with you why and what I do to connect with my children. My mother and I never connected or talked while I was a teenager. Today, my 4 youth aged children and I are great communicators. Come learn 4 amazing tips to connect with your children, 3 mentoring tools to know what they are desiring and 2 things you can do today to bring peace to your relationship. Also, receive the Christ-Centered Personalities chart.
Homeschooling 101: Curiosity
Have you felt the need to homeschool your children? If so you'll love this class on rekindling your child's curiosity. Our current model of education in this country has taught us to suppress our curiosity and wonderment. We came into this world curious and enthusiastic to learn, then throughout school we learned to not ask questions and to learn only what the teacher gave us to learn - no more and no less. Our society is starving for curiosity; curiosity is what increases freedom and enterprise. Come and learn how to increase your and your children’s curiosity through symbology, stories, scenes and questions.
Rituals and Symbolisms
There are three main sacrifices made by the ancient Israelites, The Sin Offering, the Burnt Offering and the Peace Offering. By studying these three offerings we can learn more about the sacrament, covenants, fellowship and our own personal testimonies. There are great stories and lessons learned in these offerings, for example what is the components of a ritual? The meaning of these offerings are found throughout the scriptures including the beatitudes and Alma’s sermon on prayer.
Theology Tree
The Principle Approach is a historic method of scriptural reasoning which places doctrines and principles of the gospel at the heart of education. Each subject is predicated upon gospel principles and students are taught to think and reason from principles and leading ideas using The Notebook Method, Word and Character Studies, 7 core principles, etc. It has been called "reflective teaching and learning.” I love this method because it has taught our family how to make our own textbooks and they’ve become great treasures. This presentation is an overview of the Principle Approach with LDS principles, I call it The Theology Tree. When you put Christ at the center of all learning everything becomes more memorable and personal. For a great synopsis on doctrines and principles read the preface in the Eternal Marriage Student Manuel.
Create the Most with What you Have
There are three types of voices in our head: 1) Our Encouraging Source (God) who encourages, uplifts, comforts and helps us remember, 2) Self, who asks questions, is curious and makes decisions and 3) Our Destructive Source (Satan), who wants us to forget, be discouraged or frustrated and distracted. In this presentation you will learn how to recognize each of these voices and learn tools of how to quickly realize what voice you are listening to and stop the ones that tear you down. This is an open discussion and together you will discover what is working and not working for you in your life. This is critical in learning and in teaching our children. It will help you recognize what is holding your son back or discouraging your daughter. You will learn 4 ways to magnify your gifts and create the most you can with what you have been given and being real and genuine, free of doubt and fear, fully available to focus on your tasks and others. Your children will thank you for teaching them these tools.
"Because They were Scalene."
When his friends asked Pathegreous why he didn’t stay in Atlantis for as long as he had planned, his answer was, “Because they were scalene.” What did he mean by that? Why did the Greeks use geometry in their everyday language? In this presentation you will learn how to draw a perfect equilateral triangle, what it means to be scalene, how the Greeks used the triangle to heal the sick. How many fairy tales can you name with “three" in the title? Why are there so many? You will learn the reason why and how it is significant to us today. You will also discover a lost culture that was the beginning of our country. As homeschoolers we get the opportunity to really study history with our children and we can stop the ineffective cycles and continue and begin again the effective cycles. Pathegreous’ words describe an unequal triangle and an unbalanced community. One who put on different masks depending on where they were and with whom they were with. The Greeks strived to be the same kind of person in all settings.
